Having missed out on high profile names like Gareth Bale and Neymar, the Daily Record believe that Manchester United are considering making a £55 million move for Monaco ace Thomas Lemar. Lemar has also been linked with Arsenal and could now pose a more attractive option after failing to bring Ivan Perisic to Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old’s wage demands would be lower than the Croatian’s and he also has more potential to be sold on for a profit in the future if successful. The club have not yet made contact with Monaco for the left winger, but a move could be launched before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
An alternative target in a similar mould may be Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Sun say that Manchester United have made an enquiry into the availability of the England international despite Arsene Wenger publicly insisting that that the versatile player will not be sold despite entering into the final year of his contract.
Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked, but currently the former Southampton man is set to remain at the Emirates for the season ahead. As such, United may look to bring him to Manchester to add depth to several key areas of the squad such as at wing-back, on the wings and in central midfield.
If either purchase is to be made, then the club may look to sell players. The Daily Record indicate that the Red Devils are already considering selling left-back Luke Shaw in order to raise funds for further transfer activity this summer. After the expensive purchases of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic, that may not come as a surprise.
The full-back is currently out of action with an ankle problem but endured a torrid 2016/17 campaign. Dropped by Jose Mourinho in October, he failed to regain a first team place and could now see his place at the club under threat if these reports are accurate.
