RB Leizpig defender Mo Simakan has now signed a new contract with the Bundesliga club amid interest from Tottenham.
According to The Times, Tottenham were interested in signing Simakan in the January transfer window.
They claimed that the Frenchman was being discussed by senior Spurs figures with one eye on the winter but the hopes of signing him seem to have taken a blow.
Leipzig’s official website read: ‘Mo Simakan has extended his contract with Leipzig by an extra year, meaning he will be with the club until the summer of 2027.’

Simakan signs new Leizpig contract
£15 million man Simakan said: “It was a big step for me when I arrived at the club a year and a half ago. I felt happy here from day one and I was welcomed with open arms.
“That is really important for me as it allows me to perform on the pitch and to develop in the best possible way. The club and the city have quickly become my second home and I’m quite simply delighted to be here.
“We have already achieved a lot in 2022 and I’m looking forward to everything that is still to come. The trust and recognition that I receive from the management, the coaching staff, my teammates and above all, from the fans, show that we have a bright future together.”
Max Eberl, Leipzig’s sporting director added: “Mo Simakan is a player who has already made fantastic progress at RB Leipzig and, at just 22 years of age, has great potential to become even better.
“He has made a great impression in his right-back position and he has shown both his attacking and defensive qualities. This has really underlined his flexibility.
“Mo is a key player in our team and really indefinites with RB Leipzig and all the people connected with the club. We are delighted that we have been able to extend his contract ahead of time.”
Given the defender had a deal until 2026 anyway, prolonging until 2027 is not a huge, huge blow for Spurs but it does underline his commitment to his current club and may make any transfer more complicated as Antonio Conte looks to get his squad improved next month.
