£14m Aston Villa star begins medical as he closes in on move

It has been a busy summer of incomings and outgoings at Aston Villa and they are far from done in the transfer market with less than a week remaining.

Aston Villa have added eight new signings to their squad this summer at a price of just under £150million.

But they have been equally busy on the selling side, with Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz leaving in big-money deals that have effectively cancelled out Villa’s spending.

With Diaby leaving to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for £50million, one area Villa were eager to strengthen this summer was out wide.

Jaden Philogene, Lewis Dobbin and Samuel Iling-Junior were all signed to add depth to Unai Emery’s squad, but the trio’s arrival meant that they were all competing for the same spot in the first team.

Dobbin has already been loaned out to Championship side West Brom this summer and Iling-Junior is now set to follow him out the door of Villa Park.

Samuel Iling-Junior begins medical ahead of loan move

Iling-Junior joined Villa as part of the deal that included Luiz joining Juventus.

The 20-year-old English winger was signed for a fee that could rise to £14million, but it seems he will have to wait a while longer to try and force his way into Emery’s plans.

Villa were open to letting Iling-Junior leave on loan to secure regular game time for the 2024-25 season.

According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Iling-Junior has landed in Bologna and is set to undergo his medical on Monday ahead of completing his loan move.

He will be joined at the Italian club by Benjamin Dominguez – another attacking winger who is set to complete his medical today.

Aston Villa will be watching closely

There is no space for Iling-Junior in Emery’s first-team plans this season, but the 20-year-old has a high ceiling and Villa will be eagerly watching their young winger on loan.

Iling-Junior worked his way into the first-team fold at Juventus, where he made 45 senior appearances and scored twice.
