£12m Arsenal target suggests he doesn’t want to leave his current club

Arsenal have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer.

The Gunners are after a new number two with the impending departure of Aaron Ramsdale on the horizon.

Arsenal are said to be in for a number of different goalkeeping options with Daniel Bentley and Joan Garcia said to be options.

Another player who is said to be an option for Arsenal is Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin. However, that deal seems to be unlikely at this point.

Indeed, the player has been discussing his own future in an interview with Marca, and he’s been very clear that he would like to stay at Real Madrid, even though he wants to play more football.

Andriy Lunin wants to stay at Real Madrid

The £12m goalkeeper spoke about his future.

“I want to stay, but my future is in the hands of the club,” Lunin said.

“Courtois is one of the best but I want to play.”

Arsenal not an option

Lunin seemingly has two main priorities here.

He wants to stay at Real Madrid, but if he does leave the Bernabeu, he wants to go somewhere he’ll be first-choice.

Unfortunately, Arsenal can’t quite offer that at the moment.

David Raya has just signed permanently to be the Gunners’ number one, and if Lunin were to arrive at the Emirates, he’d be acting as Aaron Ramsdale’s replacement as the Gunners’ backup goalkeeper.

Finding a goalkeeper who is of adequate quality who will be happy to play second-fiddle to Raya isn’t an easy task, but with Ramsdale seemingly on his way out this summer, Arsenal need to have a serious think about what they’re going to do in that position.

Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation needs addressing, but, unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as though Lunin will be the solution the Gunners go for.
