Arsenal defender David Luiz has told ESPN Brazil that playing under Mikel Arteta is a “dream come true” – in a way.
The Brazil international joined the Gunners last summer for a reported £8million fee (BBC Sport), calling time on his second stint at Chelsea.
Luiz’s switch across London was under Unai Emery’s watch, but he was eventually dismissed by Arsenal and replaced by Arteta, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

Although the 32-year-old had always dreamed of playing under Guardiola, he feels that being coached by one of his proteges is effectively the same thing.
“I am grateful because I made another dream come true,” said the £125,000-a-week ace. “Not in a concrete way, but in a different way. I always had the dream of working with Guardiola.
“I couldn’t work with him, but I’m having the opportunity to work with a person who grew up and learned and was victorious with him, who has the same ideas. So, in a way, I’m making a dream come true.”

Guardiola is one of the most esteemed and successful managers in world football, with 28 club trophies and two World’s Best Club Coach titles on his CV.
It’s understandable for Luiz – whose medal collection is also impressive – to want to play with one of the best, if not the best, coach in football at present.
Given Arteta has learned from the best and has been tipped for success, things look bright for Arsenal – and it’s great to see Luiz so pleased to have him as a coach and also to pay tribute to him.
