Last summer Wayne Rooney fulfilled an ambition to return to his boyhood club Everton. The Manchester United and England legend returned to Goodison Park much to many a fans delight.
Things certainly started well. He bagged a Merseyside derby goal and his hat-trick v West Ham will go down as one of his finest.
However, he found playing time harder to come by as the season went on. Eventually, with new boss Marco Silva admitting he would find it tough to play every week, Rooney looked for a move.

He headed to the United States, joining DC United, and he has taken everyone by surprise with his form so far. Rooney has played 12 times for his new club. From those games, he already has four goals and six assists. The 32-year-old is already captaining the side as well.
It does conjure some hindsight for Everton. Perhaps they let Rooney go too soon?
Everton have lacked a cutting edge so far this season, something Rooney clearly possesses. He could have easily done a job from the bench, providing an X-factor in tight games.
Judging by his current form, it is hard not to say that Everton might have been better keeping him for one more season.
