12 games, 13 goals: Aston Villa should consider Toney as Abraham’s replacement

Newcastle United may be regretting their decision to let Ivan Toney leave, judging by his recent form.

Toney joined Peterborough United in the summer and has since hit 16 goals in 32 games.

But it is his recent form that has been particularly impressive as Toney has racked up a tally of 13 goals in his last 12 games.

That has included two hat-tricks and his treble against Accrington Stanley last weekend will have caught the eye of potential suitors.

Toney has a lot of promise and is still getting better, meaning he could be an ideal Aston Villa target.

But the twice-capped England international is only on loan from Chelsea and his impressive form could convince Maurizio Sarri to give him a chance next season.

Dean Smith will therefore be looking for a long-term striker to fill Abraham’s void when he leaves.

Toney could be the perfect man for the role after proving his worth in League One.

The 22-year-old could step up to the Championship and he might be worth a gamble even if the Villans win promotion.

With age still on his side, Toney will be eager to prove Newcastle wrong and he could do that at Aston Villa.
