£12.7m Manchester United player could reportedly halt Tottenham star’s move abroad

The Sun have claimed that Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian could be on his way out of Old Trafford and to Italian champions Juventus this summer – and such a move could prevent a £30million Tottenham deal.

Darmian, 29, joined Manchester United in the summer of 2015 for £12.7million (Sun) from Torino. But the 36-time Italy international only managed seven appearances for the club last season.

Antonio Valencia and Diego Dalot were preferred on the right side of the defence, and that has led Darmian to consider his options this summer. Indeed, Juventus want to bring him in as a replacement for Joao Cancelo.

The latter is believed to be on the verge of a move to Manchester City as cover for Kyle Walker, with Danilo not doing enough to rival the England defender for a place in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Juventus are believed to be in pole position to land Darmian for what is likely to be a bargain figure, but any move for the Italian ace could have big ramifications for Tottenham Hotspur star Kieran Trippier.

Trippier, 28, has been linked with a £30million move to the Old Lady – as per the Times – after a disappointing campaign on a personal level for the ex-Burnley ace. Indeed, he has failed to hit his best form, since the World Cup.

Juventus are said to be winning the race for Trippier, though Napoli and other Italian clubs had been linked for the right-back. But with the latest report saying Juve want Darmian, surely that puts a spanner in Trippier’s works?

Indeed, Juve do still have Mattia De Sciglio as an option on the right side of defence and new manager Maurizio Sarri is hardly going to want three right-sided defenders at the club.

So, if Darmian signs, Trippier may miss out on his move to Juve.
