Arsenal continue to be linked with Patson Daka, a player whose goalscoring record is highly impressive but whose display last night showed he’s still far from the finished product.
The 22-year-old was linked with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners over the summer, South African outlet The Far Post claiming they were one of the sides vying for his signature.
While nothing came of the reported interest as the transfer window shut, Football London claimed earlier this month that Edu was still keen on Daka going into the January window.
The £20million-rated ace has made waves this year thanks to his prolific goal tally, with a great number of assists to boot.
Last term, the Red Bull Salzburg sharpshooter registered 27 goals and 12 assists from 45 competitive appearances, while this season he’s on 11 goals and five assists from just nine games.
However, Daka’s display against Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League last night – a 2-2 draw – showed there’s still work to be done.
Though the Zambia international notched up yet another assist, skilfully setting up Zlatko Junuzovic for the hosts’ second, he failed to find the scoresheet himself.
Late on in the game, Daka had a great chance to win it as he broke the lines and bore down on goal, only for opposition goalkeeper Guilherme to make a great save from close range.
Although he gets himself in great positions, Daka could arguably improve on his first touch and develop even more of a clinical edge, while better service would also work in his benefit.
With Arsenal playing an attacking style of football, boasting some top coaches, plenty of ammunition from midfield and the flanks, and being able to learn from the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Daka would certainly be able to move to the next level under Arteta and co at the Emirates Stadium.
