According to reports in the Mirror over the summer, Crystal Palace were chasing the signature of Senegalese striker Khouma Babacar for a fee of around £12 million.
Yet the deal never went through, with Babacar remaining at Italian club Sassuolo and scoring just two goals in 11 Serie A appearances this season.
The forward’s poor goalscoring form reveals Palace made the right decision this offseason when passing up on the chance to purchase Babacar.
Although the Eagles have mightily struggled for goals this campaign, it is clear that the expensive addition of the Senegalese international would have hardly revolutionised Roy Hodgson’s attack.
The 25-year-old did manage to score against Italian champions Juventus as well as against Genoa in consecutive matches in September, yet has failed to find the net since then.

Evidently, Babacar is far from a polished and lethal striker, and Crystal Palace were justified in their decision to hold off on splashing £12 million on the forward.
While Palace must search for a proven goalscorer come January, it is clear Khouma Babacar should not be on Hodgson’s winter wish list.
