£10m-rated Tyler Roberts comments on Leeds contract, amid reported interest from Newcastle United
Tyler Roberts has told The Beautiful Game podcast that his agent has held talks with the Leeds United hierarchy over his contract situation. The Wales international is being linked with a £10million move to Newcastle United, but Roberts has stated that the talks are positive and loves being at Leeds.
Roberts, 22, is set to enter the last 12 months of his current Leeds contract – having signed a four-and-a-half-year deal in January 2018. He has been in and out of the Leeds side this season, clocking up 28 first-team outings. He finally scored his first Premier League goal against Southampton.
Recently, the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle are interested in signing Wales international Roberts. It is claimed that a figure of £10million would tempt Leeds into selling the ex-West Brom attacking midfielder, who has now clocked up 82 games at Elland Road. He is set to play at Euro 2020.
Asked by the presenters of TBG’s podcast, Roberts responded by stating his agent has been speaking to the Leeds board. He claims that the talks have been positive between his representatives and the club. The Wales star also states that he loves playing for Leeds, the city and the club’s fans.
“I think my agent has had a talk with them about what is going to happen in the future. I think it is one of them that the season has been so close to ending, that you stay focused on the last few games. It is all positive. I’m very happy at Leeds. I like the City, the fans, the experiences are great. I’m happy,” Roberts told the TBG Podcast.
Roberts is surely worth keeping at Leeds, he knows Bielsa’s demands
Bielsa’s demands mean that only a specific type of player is capable of playing for him. Raphinha’s work rate allowed him to come and fit into the Leeds side in the perfect way. It means that trying to find new players for the club is incredibly difficult – so, why would you get rid of Roberts?
He is still incredibly young, but he is getting better with every minute he plays. Right now, he might not be first choice but he is versatile and can offer quality in numerous positions. He should be kept at Elland Road.
