Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris put in a strong display for his country last night, helping France to a 2-1 win over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.

The Spurs skipper was rested for Les Bleus’ 7-1 friendly win over Ukraine last week but returned to captain his nation for their next two games.

After keeping a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw with Portugal on Sunday, Lloris helped France to a 2-1 win over Croatia on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old impressed against France’s fellow 2018 World Cup finalists, earning good ratings from the national press.

Football365 gave Lloris 7 out of 10 and wrote: “As against Portugal, the Blues captain has long done the job without having tested often – a role inherent to very high level goalkeepers.

“He made the necessary stop from Pasalic’s vicious effort in a first half largely dominated by (France).

“Focused, he then gave voice to his defence during the Croats’ strongest spell, but was caught out by Vlasic’s spontaneous strike.

“Then he had warm gloves at the end of the match with two decisive stops. Strong.”

Le Parisien also gave him 7 out of 10, writing: “A superb reflex save in the first half, then two other interventions on long-range strikes at the end of the match which sealed victory for the Blues.”

TBR View:

Lloris is closing in on 350 competitive appearances for Spurs and has also won well over 100 caps for France, showing just how crucial he is for club and country, in terms of quality and reliability.

Tottenham have been lucky to have him in their squad for so many years, and hopefully the £100,000-a-week ace will pen new terms beyond 2022 to cement his place as a Spurs legend even further.
