How Twitter reacted as Wojciech Szczesny moved from Arsenal to Juventus

Wojciech Szczesny has moved to Juventus for a fee believed to be around £10 million (12.2 million euros). The Poland international impressed the Old Lady during his spell with Roma and he is being lined up to be the long-term successor to Gianluigi Buffon. He has signed a long-term contract with the club and will earn close to £70,000-a-week.

Juventus will use him as a back-up goalkeeper this season, but there will be an opportunity for the 27-year-old to become the number one next summer, as it is looking likely that Buffon will hang up his gloves after the World Cup. It will be a positive experience for the Poland international to learn from one of the best the game has ever produced. Szczesny has already proven himself as a very good goalkeeper and his move to Juventus underlines how highly he is thought of within the game.

Considering Szczesny hasn’t been part of the Arsenal squad for the last two seasons, it is a good deal for the Gunners to bring in a decent fee for him. It will boost the finances available to Arsene Wenger and that is very important in the current market. Prices keep increasing and the club need as much money as possible to compete.

Although the Poland international has a good rapport with the Arsenal fans, the club already have two very good goalkeeper in Petr Cech and David Ospina. There was no real need to bring Szczesny back into the fold and that is why they have agreed to the sale.

There are a few that think the club have made a poor decision. The risk is that the 27-year-old develops under the radar with Juventus and emerges as one of the best keepers in the world after Buffon retires. The talent is certainly there and he established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in Serie A during his loan spell with Roma.

Arsenal will move on and aim to use the money brought in by the sale to secure their priority targets. Positivity has returned to the club after the purchase of Alexandre Lacazette and they must maintain that mood with further incomings.
