Mousa Dembele is crucial to Tottenham’s success

The Belgian midfielder has improved a lot since the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino and he is now consistently performing as one of the in his position. Pochettino has decided to switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation, which has made Dembele more important to the side. His partnership with Victor Wanyama is central to the formation succeeding and it was the 29-year-old that stood out on Sunday. He was everywhere and was very impressive in transition. The central midfielder has the ability to carry the ball and pick dangerous forward passes. If he remains fit, Tottenham should finish in the top four with ease.

During the match, Dembele completed five ball recoveries which shows his ball-winning abilities, one of the major reasons why he is crucial to Tottenham. Pochettino asks his players to press and the Belgian international is one of the best at carrying out those instructions. In transition, the 29-year-old is one of the best in the league, as displayed by his three successful dribbles and 88% pass success rate, including two key passes. Southampton rallied hard in the second half, but Dembele remained committed to his task and he helped the home side hold on for the win.
