Three things learnt as Leicester City bowed out of Europe at the hands of Atletico Madrid

Written by

Leicester City exited the Champions League in valiant fashion as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid at the King Power on Tuesday evening, losing out 2-1 on aggregate.

Despite starting on the front foot it was the visitors who secured the vital away goal when Saul Niguez met Filipe Luis’ cross with a superb header across goal, just past the reach of Kasper Schmeichel.

Needing three second-half goals to over-turn the deficit, Jamie Vardy gave the hosts some hope on the hour mark when he slotted home after chaos inside the Atletico Madrid penalty area.

Leicester pegged the La Liga side back inside their own half as they pushed forward, twice seeing efforts blocked just inches short of the line, but Atletico held out to ensure their semi-final berth.

See the next few pages for three things we took as Leicester’s European adventure came to an end.
