Tottenham ensured that their last ever game at White Hart Lane ended in victory as goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane proved to be too much for Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Wanyama got the hosts of to the perfect start inside the opening ten minutes when he rose highest to power a header into the corner, before David de Gea pulled off a string of important stops.
Just minutes after the break Tottenham doubled their lead, with Harry Kane flicking Christian Eriksen’s free-kick into the corner for his 22 Premier League goal in just 28 appearances this year.
Wayne Rooney pulled one back late on to give Manchester United some hope but Spurs held out to record a memorable victory in their last ever outing at the old White Hart Lane.
Defeat on Sunday mathematically ended Jose Mourinho’s side’s hopes of finishing inside the top-four, now sitting seven points behind Manchester City in fourth with just two games left to play.
