In sensational news, Goal report that Manchester United have agreed a five year deal with Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier. The biggest obstacle to the move is currently his immigration status after a court case saw his visa request rejected when PSG traveled to London to face Arsenal in November.
The 24-year-old is an Ivory Coast international and has been attracting attention and interest from across Europe this summer. Now, he could join the Premier League to compete with the likes of Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian. He may also be a natural fit in the wing-back role Mourinho has preferred recently.
The club could also announce another signing soon as Jose Mourinho was quoted by the Express as saying that talks are ongoing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over an Old Trafford return. Ibrahimovic is currently sidelined by a knee injury but could still sign as Mourinho revealed:
“You know he’s injured, he needs time to recover, he’s not ready to play tomorrow. It’s not something urgent, that we are desperate to have it done or not done. I just think that he was very clear by showing what he did last year was not enough for him. He thinks he can do more and wants more at the highest level. So we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him to stay with us for the second part of the season.”
Having scored 26 goals last season, the Swede was an important member of the squad in 2016/17 and also provided an experienced presence in the dressing room. Given his close relationship with Mourinho, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a deal done.
Another potential signing may be Tottenham’s Danny Rose. However, The Times seem to suggest that Rose would prefer to stay in London and move to Chelsea if there is substance to their interest in him. He would consider a move to Old Trafford if the Red Devils do make a move.
The report indicates that Manchester United are unlikely to make a bid this summer, perhaps given the fact that Rose is currently out through injury and not expected to return until September. With Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo all out injured in that position, Matteo Darmian is adequately filling in for now.
