According to shock reports on Sunday afternoon, respected Spanish Journalist Manu Sainz has claimed that Chelsea are preparing a move for Manchester City’s talismanic forward Sergio Aguero.
On the AS Journalist’s Twitter account he has alleged that boss Pep Guardiola has already given a switch the go-ahead as the Blues look to solve their striking conundrum – backed up by Sky Sports today.
With Diego Costa seemingly moving further out of the picture at Stamford Bridge, and with Manchester United swooping in for Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea are in need of a striker this summer.
And the 29-year-old Argentinian is thought to be edging closer to a switch to London ahead of the new campaign, with it thought that young Brazilian Gabriel Jesus is Guardiola’s first-choice forward.
Aguero was dropped from the Manchester City first-team during the beginning of 2017, with Jesus taking his position, but despite a decrease in game-time he still managed 20 Premier League goals.
In other news, out-of-favour goalkeeper Joe Hart is set to undergo a medical at West Ham on Monday afternoon ahead of completing a season-long loan in London.
BBC Sport report that the 30-year-old is on the verge of spending another season away from the Etihad after falling out of favour with Guardiola last summer, resulting in a year spent over in Italy.
And, after the arrival of Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes earlier this summer in a £35 million switch, it is clear to see that Hart plays no part in the Spaniard’s plans for the upcoming year either.
It is understood that the Citizens will help fund part of the England number one’s wages at the Hammers, with the deal also incorporating an option for West Ham to make the move permanent.
Finally, former Arsenal player Paul Merson has urged Arsene Wenger to negotiate a swap deal between Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero this summer to put an end to the endless speculation.
In one of the longest-running sagas of the summer so far, The Guardian reported last month that Guardiola was growing in confidence ahead of swooping for the Chilean star, but to no avail so far.
And with the above reports from Spanish Journalists suggesting that Aguero could be allowed to leave this summer, Merson – who played for the Gunners for 15 years – has proposed a direct swap.
Speaking to Goal on Sunday, Merson said: “I don’t think Arsenal can replace Sanchez, can they? He gets 30 of their goals, but you’ve got to move on.
“If someone doesn’t want to be at the club, Arsenal are a big club and you don’t want players who don’t want to be there. He’s a good player – if I were Arsenal I’d be ringing up Man City and saying give us Aguero and you can have Sanchez.”
The dynamic duo managed 44 Premier League goals between them last season, coming out top-scorers for their respective clubs, and both of them have vast experience right at the highest level.
