Liverpool round-up: Teen sensation set for summer move; Lyon left-back linked; Milner praises squad

Football.London say that Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are all set to face defeat in their pursuit of Fulham’s 16-year-old prodigy Ryan Sessegnon as the England youth international has reportedly chosen to move to Merseyside in the summer with a number of options on the table.

The left-back has become a regular for the Championship side this season and scored twice against Newcastle at St. James’ Park in arguably his best display of the season only a fortnight ago as he continues to impress.

An alternative could be Lyon left-back Jordy Gaspar, according to Telefoot, as the Reds consider a move for the 19-year-old with his contract set to expire in the summer. Also capable of playing at right-back, Gaspar has played just twice for the French club’s first team but is tipped as one for the future.

AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina are also tracking the Frenchman who has recently stepped up to the French under 20s squad as he continues to edge nearer to a more regular role in the first team for Lyon in Ligue Un.

Currently filling in on the left side of defence is vice-captain James Milner, who told Sky Sports that he believes that this Liverpool squad is the best he has ever played in as he said:

“I’ve been very fortunate to play in a lot of good teams, with a lot of good players. Obviously winning a couple of titles at City, we had some very good players, but as a team this is probably up there as the best team I’ve played in… We’ve got a lot of good players at Liverpool too, but I think as a team we play a different style, everyone works together and we need to do that the way we play. It’s two completely different teams and styles of play, but two fantastic teams.”

The 31-year-old will return to his former club Manchester City this weekened and will take on the captain’s armband with Jordan Henderson ruled out with an injury.
