After weeks of speculation, Crystal Palace have this afternoon announced the signing on Jairo Riedewald on a five-year deal, reuniting him with manager Frank de Boer.

The Dutch defender already has three international caps to his name and has played over 90 games for Eredivisie side Ajax, scoring three goals. Last season, Riedewald had the highest passing accuracy in the entire division, a 92.4% completion rate.

The 20-year old is a versatile player, capable of pin-point long balls, and can play in central defence, as a left-back or as a holding midfielder. For Palace, who conceded 63 goals in just 38 games last season, a player of Riedewald’s talent is a huge boost.

The deal, which is for an undisclosed fee, was announced by Crystal Palace on social media this afternoon and has been met with a lot of excitement from Eagles fans.

The reaction was overwhelmingly in support of the new signing:

However, some are still to be convinced of the youngster’s potential:

The deal is officially for an undisclosed fee, however it is believed to be around £8 million:

Crystal Palace will face last season’s Championship play off winners Huddersfield at Selhurst Park on the opening day of the season. They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and against the league’s newcomers, Riedewald will have the perfect opportunity to prove himself to the few sceptics remaining.
