Premier League champions have let their academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek has joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan, as announced on their official website.
The Englishman has played little part in Chelsea’s successes last season, mainly appearing in the cup competitions along with other second string players. In the league, Loftus-Cheek only appeared on six occasions, all of them being substitute appearances.
He had such little impact that he failed to create a chance for his side while only making 22 passes. Antonio Conte has clearly seen nothing to build him into his plans and instead, like many Blues players, Loftus-Cheek heads out on loan.
The England Under-21 international become Frank de Boer’s first signing for his new club Crystal Palace. The Dutch manager joined last month, but he is yet to spend any money as Loftus-Cheek only joins on a temporary basis.
The 22-year-old midfielder, speaking to Crystal Palace’s official website, said: “I had the option of coming to Palace and I thought that it would be great for me, I live not too far away, I was born in Lewisham and Palace is good club so I thought it’s a good chance to play here and be a part of the team. They have a very strong team and I’d like to be a part of that this season.”
His arrival at a fellow Premier League club got social media talking. Here is how Twitter reacted:
Some Blues fans wished him luck…

This individual could be described as an optimist…
Ruben Loftus Cheek will shine at Crystal Palace. Should be worth 50m by the end of the season

Yet, others were pessimistic about the deal…
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, on 6 starts for Chelsea in 3 years, shuffled off to Crystal Palace while they pursue £35mil Bakayoko. Makes no sense.

As a Chelsea supporter it kills me seeing the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kurt Zouma be shipped out on loan who will perform in the BPL

This fan felt as though his loan deal is a sign of something better to come…
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who wore the number 14 for Chelsea, has left the Club on loan, leaving the 14 shirt open……. ? pic.twitter.com/kq3PH8RpmZ

While this person used hindsight to comment on the signing…

And finally, there’s always someone who wants to talk about Manchester United’s Paul Pogba…
I though Ruben Loftus-Cheek was as good as Pogba? Not even close. Never will be. Pogba was 19 when Conte started playing him. RLC is 21 ffs.
