How are Chelsea likely to line-up after the summer transfer window?

Written by

It’s fair to say that Antonio Conte’s first season in the Premier League was a success, as he guided his Chelsea side to the Premier League title, the seventh in the club’s history. As the Italian prepares himself and his team for the 2017/18 campaign, it will be interesting to see how the Blues line-up.

Chelsea are yet to sign anyone this summer but, of course, it’s very early in the transfer window and they have been linked with several top talents across Europe.

Conte is likely to stick with the 3-4-3 formation that served him so well during his first season in England. Not only does this formation provide the Blues with enough defensive cover, but as seen many times, it is a formation that allows the players to break quickly and effectively.

The reliable Thibaut Courtois will be set for another season in the Chelsea goal despite rumours surrounding a breakdown in contract talks between player and club, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Gary Cahill and David Luiz will form a significant part of the defensive three. The Brazillian, in particular, was superb for Conte on his return to the London club after a spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

And to complete the defence, Kalidou Koulibaly, the Napoli defender who has been linked with a move to the Blues by Italian outfit Tuttomercatoweb, could join Cahill and Luiz, adding power and strength.

There could be a new face playing in the left-wing back position next season as well. Marcus Alonso had a fairly solid season for the Conte’s side, but Juventus Alex Sandro would for sure be an upgrade. The Brazillian wing-back, linked by Sky Sports, was a crucial part of the Juventus side that reached the Champions League final next season.

In the right-wing back position, Victor Moses will be hoping to build upon the work he did last season. As for the midfield two, N’Golo Kante could find himself next to a new partner in fellow Frenchman Tiemoué Bakayoko, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea from Monaco by Sky Sports.

The front three will look similar to last season as Eden Hazard and Pedro continue on the wings, this is despite the Belgian superstar being linked with a move to Real Madrid, according to Don Balon.

However, up-top, Diego Costa is likely to be replaced to be replaced by Everton’s main man Romelu Lukaku, who could make a move back to Stamford Bridge, according to the same report by Sky Sports linking Bakayoko to the Blues.

The 24-year-old scored an impressive 25 goals for the Toffees last season and a move to Chelsea makes a great deal of sense for player and club as Conte readies his squad for a hectic schedule next season.
