Chelsea round-up: Shock Arsenal swap deal; £65million for Aubameyang; waiting game over right-back

There could be a sensational transfer deal in the offing, according to Italian agent Gianluca di Marzio, that could see a swap deal between Chelsea and Arsenal involving midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nemanja Matic. He suggests that both clubs are considering the proposal.

Both players are entering into the final year of their contracts and seem unlikely to sign extensions to those deals. Whether or not Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger would be prepared to consider a swap deal may be an entirely different matter given that both seem keen to hold on to their men.

Chelsea could face competition in their pursuit of a striker as the The Sun say that they will go head to head with Premier League competitors Liverpool in the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It’s expected that the deal could cost the victor as much as £65 million.

Having missed out on Romelu Lukaku and with a move for Alvaro Morata seeming increasingly unlikely, the Blues may be forced to consider other options with Aubameyang likely to be a candidate after averaging almost a goal a game in 2016/17. He would be a more than adequate replacement for the outgoing Diego Costa.

One player who seems more likely to sign is Real Madrid right-back Danilo. However, Marca report that Chelsea are yet to up their bid despite not yet matching Real Madrid’s asking price for the Brazilian. They state that Roman Abramovich is hoping that by waiting, the European champions will lower their expectations.

Danilo is expected to arrive to compete with Victor Moses on the right flank and could also provide some cover on the left for Marcos Alonso. Having also attracted interest from Juventus, he is still expected to join Chelsea with these negotiations likely to result in an agreement soon.
