Chelsea round-up: Antonio Conte targets two young strikers; Monaco duo targeted; Stoke win reaction

The Sun claim that a potential move for Romelu Lukaku would have no impact on Chelsea’s attempts to bring Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte is believed to want both strikers to be available to him next season and is prepared to sell Diego Costa to finance the deals.

That could see Conte return to the system he used previously at Juventus and Italy with a two man strike partnership, or may see the duo rotate with the added pressure of Champions League football likely to test what is currently a shallow Chelsea squad next season.

Another double swoop could be on the cards as the Mirror say that the club are looking to bring Monaco duo Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to west London. Holding midfielder Mendy would cost the club around £12 million, while Brazilian winger Silva would demand a much higher fee in the region of £28 million.

Both have been crucial for the club from the south of France as they mount a title challenge in Ligue Un and have surprised many with their impressive progress in the Champions League, with these two playing key roles in their fine form and will undoubtedly be in demand in the summer.

For now though, Antonio Conte has praised his team after their win over Stoke City in the Premier League to give them a convincing lead at the top of the table, as he told the Chelsea club website:

“For sure this is an important win. It is not easy at this point in the season to come here and play Stoke, a strong team with good quality and good tactical organisation, but we showed from the start to the end a great will to win and I am very pleased for this. My players were prepared to fight for this game because it was not easy. We have played two games away against West Ham and Stoke and to win both is very important at this part of the season.”

The Blues had looked set to settle for a point until Gary Cahill found the back of the net with only moments left after the defender had previously conceded a penalty four a foul on Jonathan Walters to cancel out Willian’s opener.
