Chelsea are close to launching a club record bid worth £59 million for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to Italian source Tuttomercato. The striker has found it clear that he is not first choice for at the Bernabeu and is now considering his options with Antonio Conte keen on a reunion from their time at Juventus.
The offer is thought to include £160,000 per week in wages on a five year contract which could mean that Morata would represent a replacement for current first choice striker Diego Costa, who continues to be linked with a move away from west London in the summer.
The club are also confident that they have done enough to secure a deal for Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, seeing off competition from the likes of Arsenal, as The Sun say that Chelsea’s decision to include Danish defender Andreas Christensen in a potential swap could seal the deal.
The 21-year-old is set to return from a loan spell from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and could be used as a makeweight in the move for the Dutch international, who would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge despite the £150,000 per week wages on offer at the Emirates.
However, it seems that neither move will be funded by the sale of midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to the London Evening Standard. They report that the Spaniard will reject a £30 million offer from Italian giants AC Milan as he is reluctant to move to Serie A at this stage in his career.
Fabregas has struggled for starts this season, particularly in the Premier League, and is likely to face even more of a challenge in the form of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko if the Frenchman joins the club this summer as is being speculated at present in a £40 million move.
