Chelsea almost pulled off a shock summer move and retain an interest in the target, according to the Mirror, who say that Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller was on the club’s radar. Arsenal and Liverpool also enquired as to the German international’s availability in the summer.
Chelsea are likely to go back in for the 28-year-old in January, but Bayern Munich are currently refusing to sell their man with four years left on his existing contract at the Allianz Arena. However, Muller is no longer part of Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred starting line-up and he may be open to a move.
He could be a direct replacement for Diego Costa, as the Mirror say that he could now head out on loan. The Turkish transfer window remains open and both Besiktas and Fenerbahce have been linked with a temporary loan move to take the Spaniard to Turkey this month.
Contrary to previous reports, Costa remains in his home town of Lagarto in Brazil and was pictured talking to locals from his car on Thursday. That has ruled out any chance of Costa making an imminent return to London, where he has failed to report for training since leaving at the end of last season.
Chelsea have joined Roma and Barcelona in tracking 18-year-old sensation Atakan Akkaynak, news outlet Goal believe. They say that the three clubs are interested in the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who is yet to make his first team debut. Also a Germany under 19 international, his contract will expire in 2019.
Akkaynak has captained his country at both under 17 and under 18 level, catching the eye for his ability to play with both feet and balance attacking prowess with defensive reliability. With some of Europe’s biggest clubs clearly hoping to sign him, he could face a big decision in the months ahead.
