Twitter reacts to Liverpool rejecting a £90m bid for Coutinho

Written by

Liverpool have rejected a bid of £90 million from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho. This is the second bid that the Spanish club have made for the Brazilian international, but it was rejected immediately as the Reds reiterate that he isn’t for sale. Los Cules have money to spend after selling Neymar in a world record deal worth £200 million and his international colleague has emerged as their main target to replace the forward.

Jurgen Klopp has had a disappointing summer as he has failed to sign key targets and he will be desperate to keep Coutinho at the club, even if it is only for one more year. The Brazilian is now one of the best players in the Premier League and it would be a near impossible task to replace him. The Reds have already had problems bringing in players and they won’t want to have another squad place to fill.

The offer from Barcelona is an acceptable amount for a player with Coutinho’s resume. That said, Liverpool would find it difficult to replace him with a player with similar ability. The window is drawing to a close and everyone knows that money that the Spanish giants now have available to them. If they are to sign a player this summer, they will need to pay above and beyond his value. This update underlines that.

This transfer is far from over, as there could be an improved bid from Barcelona. However, Liverpool are standing strong and are right to persist that he isn’t for sale. If they are to let him go, it needs to be on their terms and they should try to secure as much of the Neymar fee as they possibly can. The Reds would also be wise to identify possible replacements and get a deal in place before agreeing to selling Coutinho.

Although Liverpool have rejected the latest offer, this saga is far from over. Here is how Twitter reacted to the news that the Reds have turned down a £90 million offer for Coutinho:
